Craig Thompson - Blankets Book Trailer

     I have never seen or heard of a book trailer before, but I am also very new to reading graphic novels. The book trailer shown here -- http://lauriespring15bloghub.blogspot.com -- Includes all of the main components of the book. I think it spoils the story a little bit by spoiling the plot, but perhaps it didn't spoil the main lesson to be learned -- That love can be a mystery, and sometimes, the best thing you can do is let it go. It was the right time for these two and everything seemed perfect. It was almost as though they could get married and run away, but living separate lives in separate places, the two decide to split. The love felt for Raina seemed to ignite fire in Craig. A fire whose hot air carried him gracefully home to his brother. The two become close again after separating, and Craig even becomes more social. He steps out of the cave of shadows and allows himself to be immersed in the bright light of life. He takes control of his life and thinks for his own, and today, he still does the same. This story has inspired me only to be myself, as Craig was, and also to read more books. 

     If I made a trailer for this book to encourage my peers to read, it would include how relatable it can be for the common person. Everybody is on their own journey, and this book is the story of one man as he grows up. I don't know what exactly I would do to portray this in a book trailer, but I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who struggles to let go of a past love. Some times its good to burn it all and start over, to touch the pen on a clean piece of paper, and carry on in time. 

The Incredibles

       Bob Parr is working as an average man at an insurance company. He is much bigger than his little cubicle and the expression on his face shows that he does not enjoy what he is doing. Being a retired superhero, his instinct is to help people, and he does so regardless of the company’s pursuit of money. His employer, a short, slick haired suit and tie kind of guy calls for bob in a fury. He is angry because many of Bob’s clients are getting money for their claims, even though the company makes it very hard for this to happen. Bob’s boss is rambling about clocks and how all the pieces work together, but Mr. Incredible’s attention is elsewhere.

            Outside, a man is getting mugged and Bob wants to help. With a heroic look in his eyes, he starts for the door only to be stopped by his boss. His hand on the doorknob, Bob listens to his boss’s threats and the remark of “well, lets hope he’s not our client.”  With that, Bob releases the now crushed doorknob and glances out the window, “He got away.”

            To which his boss replies, “It’s a good thing too, because you were moments away from loosing your jo---.“

            Bob grabs the short money hungry insurance man and hurls him through walls. Bob is fired for his actions.

            This is a big and important turning point in the movie because this is where Bob gave in and stepped into himself. He took control just for a moment and got fired for it, but it shows how poorly Bob was adjusting to average citizen life.

            Fortunately for Bob, at a low point in his life when all he wants to do is express his powers but is forced not to, he receives an envelope on his desk from a secret company wanting to hire him. His powers are of dire need to save their island from an evil robot.

            This sequence happens around 25 minutes in.

Favorite Movie Free Write

       My favorite movie is a movie from my childhood called "The Lords of Dogtown." It's a movie based on a true story about a group of California surfers who start a skate team. The Zepher team entered into the sport at a time when tricks were basic, clothing was colorful, and movements were stiff. The movie focuses on four main characters, Stacy Peralta who directed the movie, Jay Jay boy Adams, Sidd, and Tony Alva. Bringing their mischief and surf style, the team revolutionized the skateboarding sport. "The Lords of Dogtown" is a movie that almost brings me to tears even to this day. A friend of mine from middle school saw the movie and we still quote it to this day. It's funny, inspiring, heart-sinking, and its got to be the best movie about skateboarding ever made. "The Lords of Dogtown" is my favorite movie and will probably remain as it for a long time.

Country Fried Rock: Steve Earle Interview

          Steve Earle recently came out with a new blues record called Terraplane. He has his roots in blues but moved away from the sound early in his career. That is not to say that he never touched on the blues at all. His buddy Chris Masterson toured with him and would play some bluesy stuff for sound checks.
